“crash for cash” brothers found guilty

Greater Manchester Police have reported that two brothers who masterminded one of the country’s biggest ever “crash for cash” scams have been convicted.

Rezwan Javed and Rehan Javed, both of Dovedale Close, Burnley, Lancashire, have been found guilty after a trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court of conspiracy to defraud and possession of an article for use in fraud.

The two ran North West Claims Centre Ltd, a Burnley company which managed insurance claims.

They organised fraudulent claims following collisions deliberately caused by other members of an organised crime group.

The scam was eventually exposed by office workers at Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, who observed that the same motorist was frequently involved in minor accidents at a nearby roundabout, and reported their suspicions.

The driver, Mohammed Patel, received a custodial sentenced for his part in the conspiracy last year.

Rezwan Javed and Rehan Javed will be sentenced in December.
