{"id":126,"date":"2011-02-10T14:52:40","date_gmt":"2011-02-10T14:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sure2insure.co.uk\/?p=126"},"modified":"2011-02-10T14:52:40","modified_gmt":"2011-02-10T14:52:40","slug":"cold-weather-sees-insurance-claims-double-to-1-4bn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sure2insure.co.uk\/?p=126","title":{"rendered":"Cold weather sees insurance claims double to \u00a31.4bn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 250,000 vehicles were damaged due to the snow and ice on the roads.<br \/>\nThe freezing weather in December resulted in \u00a31.4bn of insurance claims on property and vehicles in the UK, figures have shown.<\/p>\n<p>This is more than twice the \u00a3650m claimed due to the cold snap the previous year, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) said.<br \/>\nThe snap was more severe, longer and affected more of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Burst pipes caused the most problems, with more than 100,000 claims totalling \u00a3680m, the ABI said.<br \/>\nMore than 250,000 vehicles were damaged as a result of the snow and ice on the roads, leading to \u00a3530m of claims.<br \/>\nThe ABI said there was no evidence that premiums had gone up as a result of the cold weather.<\/p>\n<p>Figures released last month showed that the cold weather was largely responsible for the contraction in the UK economy during the final three months of last year.<br \/>\nThe economy shrank by 0.5%, but activity would have been &#8220;flattish&#8221; without the impact of the bad weather, the Office for National Statistics said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 250,000 vehicles were damaged due to the snow and ice on the roads.
