Consumers are at risk of losing hundreds of pounds worth of digital music because their household insurers may not protect downloaded material.<\/p>\n
According to research from Which?, a third of leading home insurers\u2019 standard policies don\u2019t offer any form of digital cover, despite over 100 million tracks being downloaded by UK music lovers each year.<\/p>\n
Which? found only four providers (HMV Digital, Play.com, 7digital and Tesco Entertainment) that allow customers to re-download lost tracks, and in the case of iTunes, products can definitely only be downloaded once.<\/p>\n
The consumer group\u2019s chief executive, Peter Vicary Smith, comments: \u201cIt\u2019s surprising that, at a time when the popularity of digital downloads is soaring, insurers aren\u2019t offering music lovers the protection they need.\u201d<\/p>\n
